Title: ADHD, ASD, and Neurodiversity – is it time to move on?
🧠
Rethinking ADHD, ASD & Neurodiversity
🔍 Questioning the Labels
In this address, Dr. Fry,
Consultant Integrative Child Psychiatrist and former GP, reflects on his
professional journey and growing concerns about the continued reliance on
diagnostic labels such as ADHD, ASD, and Neurodiversity.
With these conditions appearing to
rise to near-endemic levels, he explores whether current diagnostic frameworks
remain helpful—or whether it is time to reconsider them.
📊 Drivers behind the Diagnoses
The lecture examines:
·
Why
these diagnoses are increasing
·
How
they are being used in clinical and educational settings
·
What
these labels truly mean for children and families
·
The
evolving relationship between Paediatrics and Psychiatry
🌱 A Shift Toward Individualised Care
Drawing from nearly forty years of
practice, Dr. Fry explains why he now views syndromic categories as limiting.
Instead of focusing on labels, he
promotes an individualised exploration of:
·
Genetic
vulnerabilities
·
Toxic
environmental exposures
·
Metabolic
differences
·
Diet
and lifestyle influences
·
Underlying
causes of concentration difficulties and emotional overwhelm
🔄 A Holistic Perspective
The lecture concludes by
introducing new ways of understanding and supporting children who struggle with
attention, sensory overload, and emotional regulation.
Dr. Fry’s professional
evolution—from mainstream psychiatry to a broader integrative model—forms the
foundation of this thought-provoking discussion.
