Title: Experience of early childhood intervention in Ukraine: Possibilities of intersectoral cooperation and internationally recognized practices during the war

🧠 Presentation Highlights

Focus Area: Supporting children with developmental delays, disabilities, and at-risk conditions through early intervention during crisis situations.

Historical Context: Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) in Ukraine has been evolving since the early 2000s, with major progress driven by international collaboration, particularly with the Dutch SOFT tulip Foundation.

Approach: A multidisciplinary, family-centered model that integrates healthcare, social services, and developmental expertise to promote child growth and strengthen family resilience.

Key Insight: Holistic child development requires combining medical care, social support, and environmental enrichment, while empowering caregivers in their roles.

Challenges:
– Limited coordination between ECI, medical, and rehabilitation services
– Instability and unpredictability caused by ongoing conflict
– Increased stress, trauma, and developmental setbacks in children

Evidence: Based on the study “Lace of Life: Functioning of the ECI Network in Ukraine During the War (2022–2024)”.

Key Findings:
– Strong partnerships with families improve resilience
– Consistent routines and daily practices stabilize children
– Long-term professional support enhances emotional security
– Empowering caregivers strengthens control over daily life and child outcomes

Takeaway: Even during conflict, structured early intervention effectively supports child development, mental health, and family well-being.
