Presentation Type: Oral Presentation (Virtual)
🧠 Presentation Highlights
• Core
Focus: Strengthening early childhood intervention (ECI) systems for
children with developmental delays, disabilities, and risk conditions during
humanitarian crisis and war.
• Background: Ukraine’s ECI system has been developing since the early
2000s, with significant progress achieved through long-term international
cooperation, particularly with the Dutch organization SOFT tulip.
• Service Model: A transdisciplinary, family-centered ECI approach built
on partnership with parents and everyday life contexts.
• Holistic Approach: Integration of medical, social, and environmental
factors to support children’s overall development and family well-being.
• Key Challenge: Limited intersectoral cooperation between early
detection, medical care, rehabilitation, and social services continues to
affect timely referrals.
• Impact of War:
– Prolonged traumatic experiences
– Forced displacement and instability
– Loss of safety and predictability
– Developmental regression in young children
– Increased mental health challenges for families
• Research Evidence:
Findings from the national study “Lace of Life: Functioning of the ECI
Network in Ukraine During the War (2022–2024).”
• Key Findings:
– Strong partnerships with parents enhance resilience
– Mutual support strengthens family coping capacity
– Daily routines provide emotional stability for children
– Long-term professional relationships promote recovery
• International Relevance: Demonstrates how globally recognized ECI
principles remain effective even under extreme crisis conditions.
• Key Message: Early childhood intervention is not only developmental
support — it is a vital system for protecting mental health, resilience, and
family stability during war.
